Airborne

Getting this shot of a 33 ton breaching Humpback Whale was without a doubt one of the absolute hardest photos I've ever tried to get. There's no warning that a while is about to breach, and there's no guarantee you'll be looking in the correct direction, and definitely no guarantee that you will be ready with your camera and fast enough to spin and get "the shot". This particular whale was the 3rd of 3 breaches that morning and in a stroke of luck I was able to have my stars align enough to get "the shot". It's hard to understand the sheer size of these things at first, until a Humpback slowly swims under the 60 foot boat you're on, and you realize that it's basically the exact same.
